Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Plans Future Collaborations With Ke$ha

'It gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,' Grammy-nominated producer says of Cannibal singer.

Producer Bangladesh's biggest break came when he powered Lil Wayne's "A Milli." Then he upped the ante on Weezy's recent release "6 Foot 7 Foot." So, what does the Grammy-nominated beatsmith have in store for the new year? More of the same, actually.

Bangladesh hopes to continue his genre-bending ways, whether it's lending rock-leaning sensibilities to Lil Wayne or injecting a pop star's work with edgy hip-hop drums. He and Dr. Luke (Britney Spears, Pink, Katy Perry) recently worked together on Ke$ha's "Sleazy," from her Cannibal LP.

"I met Luke through a mutual friend, so it was like me walking into a stranger's house," Bangladesh told MTV News. "I really didn't know what to expect. But it was all love. It was kind of like the roles were reversed, like I was the biggest producer and he just had a couple of hits. Once I saw how he felt about me, I was like man, I might be the truth. [He laughs.]"

After hitting it off, they joined forces for "Sleazy," the first of many collaborations Bangladesh is shooting for with the "Tik Tok" star.

"That's a good look, because it gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am," he explained. "It shows how music is changing. And it shows that I'm kind of the changer behind it. The leader. I'm trying to mix the different genres where it's still convincing, like, I believe them doing this."

'Jersey Shore' Star Sammi: 'Nobody's Hard To With Fight In That House'

'Winning isn't everything, but I'm proud of standing up,' Sammi says of coming to blows with housemates like JWoww.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Jim Cantiello

Last week's "Jersey Shore" premiere ended with a mid-punch cliffhanger as Sammi and JWoww went at each other, grabbing fistfuls of hair extensions and clawing at each other's faces. Who would win?

The scrum picked up again Thursday night (January 13) and, as we should have suspected, nobody really wins when it comes to intra-cast brawling on the hit reality show, do they? That's not to say the girls seem to regret brawling or that another fight couldn't happen in the future. Because according to Sammi, she's not scared of any of her castmates.

"Nobody's hard to fight with in that house," she told MTV News recently.

Sammi doesn't mean that as some sort of hear-me-roar intimidation tactic. In fact, she professes to hate fighting and confessed, "I never fought anybody in my entire life until Miami." But since the cast's trip to Florida — fight she has. And each time, she hasn't backed down from going at JWoww, who Sammi says is a much more experienced fighter.

"I'm very stern in my opinions and I speak my mind," she said. "Winning isn't everything, but I'm proud of standing up [for myself], for never fighting before. For somebody who fights all the time to somebody who doesn't fight, I'm a little bit proud of myself for just sticking up.

"That's just who I am — I stick up for myself," she added. "I don't care if I win, I don't care if I lose, I'm just stern in my beliefs and my opinions."

Don't miss "Jersey Shore," airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

Justin Bieber Calls His Genre 'Just Good Music'

'It's not a specific type of music,' Biebs tells MTV News at Q100 event.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Mawuse Ziegbe

Justin Bieber
Photo: MTV News

While observers may attribute Justin Bieber's overwhelming ascension into pop superstardom this year to his boyish charm or that perfectly coiffed hair, most of the "Bieber Fever" can be traced to the chart-dominating success and catchy tunes from not one, but the two albums he released this year.

But don't confine him to the "pop star" category. When MTV News caught up with the teen phenom at a charity event for Atlanta's Q100 radio station recently, Bieber said he doesn't think of his music as a specific genre.

"Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear," Bieber explained of his lyrical stylings. "I don't know, it's not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn't say I'm pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it's just good music," he said with confidence.

To the busy 16-year-old's credit, he's been working with such a variety of artists, from Usher to Kanye West and Raekwon, and on future projects with Diddy, Lil Twist and Rascal Flatts, that the young man is certainly covering his musical bases. Not to mention the fact that he also recently introduced his legions of fans to his alter ego, rapper Shawty Mane.

With his big-screen debut, "Never Say Never," and a tour with Willow Smith on the way in 2011, in addition to whatever "good music" he puts out from all of those collaborations, the Biebs is definitely exploring all of his options.

2011 is bound to be a big year for Lady Gaga, and now it seems that her choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, is also poised for a big year. Gibson will star in her own E! reality show, tentatively titled "The Dance Scene," set to premiere in April, EW reports.

The show will follow Gibson as she trains assistant choreographers and dancers to work with celebrities. Ryan Seacrest, who will serve as the show's producer, explains, "Dance is at the center of pop culture — today more than ever — and Laurieann is an amazing force accelerating this huge wave of creativity. This series gives audiences an insider's view of how competitive the dance world is, the talent and ambition that a dancer needs to be successful in the Hollywood scene, and the drama that ensues along the way."

The eight episode docu-series will officially debut April 10.

"The competitive world of the professional dancer is grueling creative work," said Lisa Berger, executive vice president of programming at E!. "Watching Laurieann mentor these young artists, who will do anything to make it in the business, gives us a glimpse into a world where the pursuit of success and excellence outweighs all else."

Gibson most recently worked with Gaga, but has also worked with Diddy and Alicia Keys. She's also tasted reality show life, having appeared on "Making the Band" and "Skating With the Stars."

This week, Gibson tweeted about filming her show, writing, "In London.. Shooting new show on E"!!! Its gonna be Epic.!!"

She later tweeted a photo of her cameramen, adding, "Lookin' good guys! Team BoomKack ... shooting E show in London!!!"

Will you watch Laurieann Gibson's new reality show? Tell us in the comments below!

Will Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' Match Past Success?

We take a look at the pop star's previous singles, by the numbers.
By Gil Kaufman

Britney Spears
Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images

Forget about the trash-talking battle between Britney Spears supporters and Lady Gaga's Little Monsters about which diva will rule 2011. And, for the moment, disregard the fact that when Britney drops her latest single, "Hold It Against Me," on Tuesday, she'll have some stiff chart competition in the form of another new single from a pair of major dudes, Kanye West and Jay-Z's cryptically named "H.A.M.," the first single from their upcoming joint album, Watch the Throne.

The real question is: Will Britney be able to live up to her past glory? The club-thumping "Against Me" comes out after the former teen pop star cemented a career comeback in 2008 with her Circus album and its ensuing smash world tour. But a look at Brit's success on the singles chart with the first single from her album is a lesson in the ups and downs of a pop star's career arc.

While some songs were unexpected smashes out of the box (think "3" and "Womanizer"), others either failed to chart ("My Prerogative") or didn't do as well as you might have expected ("I'm a Slave 4 U").

Billboard ran down the chart debuts of the first singles from each of Spears' albums, and they tell an interesting tale that could bode well for her latest chart attack.

5: Number of first singles from Spears' eight albums (which includes two best-ofs) that have hit the top 10.

3: Number of Hot 100 #1 songs that have been the lead singles from that project.

2: Brit's last two singles ("3" and "Womanizer") have hit #1 on the Hot 100.

5.1 million: Combined digital sales for those tracks.

43: Combined weeks on the charts for those singles.

32: Highest number of weeks on the chart for a lead single (" ... Baby One More Time").

85: Lowest chart debut for a lead single ("Gimme More").

95: Number of spots "Womanizer" jumped in week two on the singles chart after debuting at #96.

16: "3" became only the 16th song in Hot 100 history to debut at #1 in October 2009.

How do you think Britney's "Hold It Against Me" will do in its chart debut? Let us know in the comments!

Kanye West And Jay-Z Harness Social Media For Watch The Throne

After MCs serve up H.A.M. on joint album's fan page, execs at Def Jam, Facebook reveal MCs' social strategy to MTV News.
By Jenny McCoy, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes

These days, among other things, the hip-hop release playbook requires an active Facebook account, a fact rap heavyweights Kanye West and Jay-Z are obviously aware of.

Just after midnight on Tuesday (January 11), the MCs gave fans a first listen to "H.A.M," the lead single from Watch the Throne — in exchange for a "like" on the Facebook page for their collaborative album.

The Watch the Throne page uses Facebook's most popular music application, BandPages, to stream the single, and it has amassed more than 57,000 fans in just three days.

"It's great to see artists turning to social platforms to get their music out to their fans. The music release process isn't about radio play anymore — it's about finding fans where they live, getting songs to the people who care," said Brenna Ehrlich, news editor at Mashable.com.

Indeed, this tactic is just another example of a growing trend in the hip-hop community and the music industry at large.

"While people have been able to share their music tastes on Facebook since the beginning, and we saw the emergence of social music applications gain popularity when we opened our platform in 2007, we're still just at the beginning of this new world of music and technology," said Meredith Chin, a staffer at Facebook's corporate communications department. "It will be exciting to see how things evolve over time based on the creativity and imagination of musicians and their fans."

And in the wake of MySpace, the self-proclaimed "entertainment destination for Gen Y," announcing a 47 percent staff reduction, Kanye and Jay-Z's release strategy is just another indication of Facebook's growing share of the social music space.

Recently, both Lil Wayne and Avril Lavigne offered fans similar single-stream capabilities, but Kanye and Jay-Z made their release distinctive by directing fans to an album-specific fan page rather than simply leveraging their existing pages, which are home to 5.4 and 6.1 million fans, respectively.

"I think it was smart to launch their own page, but I would have used both accounts as well. That way fans would be able to easily find the track, rather than going to a brand-new page," Ehrlich said.

Representatives for Def Jam revealed to MTV News that the idea to release "H.A.M." via social-media network came from none other than Hov.

"It was Jay-Z's camp who set that up," said JD Anderson, manager of new media for Def Jam. "The application also used in the strategy, RootMusic, has the capability to stream music on Facebook."

According to Anderson, the two rappers took advantage of their massive combined Facebook following to showcase the first effort from the upcoming album."We launched it off of Jay's Facebook, then we were sending people to the Watch the Throne new page," Anderson explained. "Kanye has 5 million and Jay has 6 million. Everyone's on Facebook, so the only thing that was lacking was the capability to stream music."

While there's still no concrete release date for Watch the Throne, a rep for Def Jam revealed the LP will drop on the Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam imprint.

Are you a fan on Kanye and Jay's Watch the Throne page? Tell us in the comments!

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Cake Try For 'Classy And Grandiose' In Showroom Of Compassion

After a six-plus-year wait between albums, indie rockers didn't feel obligated to 'reinvent' their sound.
By Sabrina Rojas Weiss

Cake's John McCrea
Photo: MTV News

"It's been a long time," John McCrea sings on the second track of Cake's new album, Showroom of Compassion, which dropped on Tuesday (January 11). For fans who have been waiting more than six years for a new release from the understated indie rockers, it sure has been.

And what they'll get after this long time is signature Cake, albeit with a few adjustments.

"We're not trying to change; we never have," McCrea told MTV News. "I always thought that was so wasteful for musicians to feel so obligated to reinvent themselves every album. ... That said, we do have reverb for the first time on my vocals. I think I had a moratorium against reverb all this time because I didn't want to sound grandiose."

There's also more piano, which McCrea said they avoided in the past "because we didn't want to sound classy. Now we're a little classier," he deadpanned. "I think we're doing what America wants us to do: being classy and grandiose. And rude, with the song 'Sick of You.' " But none of this is news to the real die-hards, who have videotaped live performances of the new songs, studied the lyrics and are already singing along to every word at concerts.

"It's pretty great, especially if you go someplace like France, where the language is French and the album has only been out for a couple months, and everybody is singing the words in English," said Vince DeFiore, who plays trumpet, keyboard and percussion.

After spending years extricating themselves from a label deal, launching their own label and dealing with other issues that "musicians shouldn't have to deal with in a normal situation," Cake set about recording the album in an entirely solar-powered studio in Sacramento, California. The conversion turned out to be so efficient, they actually get a kickback from the city now.

"As the value of recorded music descends to zero, we get a little check for $25," McCrea said of their power-grid surplus.

But a band whose songs are perennial favorites for use in ads (Apple, Snapple), TV shows (everything from "The Sopranos" to "Chuck") and movies, shouldn't have to worry about funds too much. Are there any Showroom songs they think are ripe for commercial use?

" 'Easy to Crash' — maybe that would be good for a car that has a really good safety record," McCrea offered. "I might allow that. I'm pro safety."

Vanilla Ice: Madonna Made Me Feel "Disgusting & Cheap"

Vanilla Ice: Madonna Made Me Feel "Disgusting & Cheap"

Vanilla Ice (real name: Robert Van Winkle) and Madonna dated more than 20 years ago, but the rapper still has some pretty strong feelings about it. In a new interview with Britain's News of the World, the star of The Vanilla Ice Project opened up about his fling with the Material Girl.

"She was older than me and a great lover," say Van Winkle, who was 24 at the time.

But after eight months together, their relationship hit the skids. Madge had just released her coffee table book, Sex, for which Van Winkle posed, and he says he was taken back by the final product.

"I thought she was taking pictures and running round naked because she was like that. Then when the book came out I was so embarrassed and ashamed," he admitted. "It was a porno. She threw me in like I was a product off a shelf and I didn't appreciate it. That was it and I ended it. She said she didn't have sex with these men but it looked like she was."

And, it was enough to make him want to end the relationship.

"I broke up with her after she printed that book because I was hurt to be an unwitting part of this slutty package," Van Winkle revealed. "It was disgusting and cheap. We were in a relationship yet it looked like she was screwing all these other people."

Madonna has gone on to have plenty of other lovers and we haven't heard her mention Ice's name in years, so it's pretty safe to say she's over it. But who knew Van Winkle had such strong morals?

Do you think Vanilla Ice had a good reason for breaking up with Madonna? Chime in below!

'Country Strong' Star Garrett Hedlund Ponders A Music Career

'We'll see what happens, but no plans for any solo album,' the actor tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

In "Country Strong," which opened Friday (January 7), Garrett Hedlund's talent as both a singer and a guitarist are on display. In the movie he plays Nashville songwriter Beau Hutton. But just because Hedlund can play guitar and sing, he isn't going to release his own solo album anytime soon.

"It's funny, I was in Nashville yesterday and the day before, and I was hanging with Dierks Bentley there, and he was saying, 'You gotta come out on the tour and sing one here and there.' That's always a fun possibility," he told MTV News. "We'll see what happens, but no plans for any solo album."

If he did ever want to release music, he's got quite an impressive résumé for it. "I had so many great people helping me for six months," he recalled of preparing for his role. "This great guy Neal Casal, who's a wonderful singer/songwriter. He was the lead guitarist for Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. So just one day you can't play the guitar and the next day you got the guy who was playing lead guitar on 'Come Pick Me Up.' "

But Hedlund doesn't only credit Casal for his new talent; he's got a few others to thank. "Out in Nashville, we had a wonderful producer Frank Liddell and engineer Luke Wooten that we just spent day after day after day just hashing out these songs, and there was a lot of sweat put in."

The actor notes that in addition to some key teachers, he also had a sort of music education growing up in Minnesota. "I mean, country, it was the only thing we listened to on the farm with the one radio station," Hedlund recalled about his childhood. "You try to veer from it and you go to rock and then to rap, and then country on this film kind of pulled me back home."

Check out everything we've got on "Country Strong."

Rachel McAdams: Berlin Beauty

Continuing her promotional duties, Rachel McAdams was spotted out in Berlin, Germany earlier today (January 10).

The ?Red Eye? actress looked lovely in a tan leather jacket as she arrived at SAT.1 TV studios at Fernsehwerft to talk about her new film ?Morning Glory.?

Yesterday Rachel was joined by her costar Harrison Ford as she walked the red carpet at CineStar Movie Theater for the big premiere.

Of her character in the flick, Rachel told press, "She loves news, loves everything about news and always has. She works on this little, tiny news show in New Jersey and she thinks she is being promoted one day and she has actually been fired and is devastated."

No Justin Bieber-Centric 'Glee' Episode Planned

'Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,' co-creator Ryan Murphy explains.

Bad news for Beliebers: A Justin Bieber "Glee" tribute episode isn't happening anytime soon.

After rumors began to swirl that Bieber Fever was slated to sweep McKinley High, Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of the Fox hit cleared up the role of the teen star's music in an upcoming episode. Murphy maintained that unlike other superstars whose repertories have received "Glee" overhauls — like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Madonna — Bieber's current list of hits isn't long enough to sustain an entire hour of New Directions-helmed numbers.

"Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs," he told Entertainment Weekly. However, this season of "Glee" won't be completely Bieber-free: "Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a JB song to win Quinn's [Dianna Agron] approval."

Murphy has recently been giving up more details about some of the storylines and smash hits set to turn up on "Glee." Gwyneth Paltrow will return to reprise her role as feisty substitute teacher Holly Holliday for a two-episode arc that includes dating glee-club leader Will Schuester. The hit show will also take a chance on Gaga's soon-to-be released single "Born This Way," which will serve as inspiration for an episode airing in either March or April.

"I love that that song is [an] anthem," Murphy explained of giving the track major "Glee" love. "This show is by nature optimistic and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. So I don't really know what that's going to be, but I do know we're going to do a whole episode that's about that song."

Are you bummed there is no Justin Bieber "Glee" episode? Let us know in the comments!

Pauly D Says Britney Spears Album Is 'Amazing'

'This is gonna be one of her greatest albums,' 'Jersey Shore' star raves.

Perez Hilton loves Britney Spears' new single, "Hold It Against Me," and now it seems that she's getting some love from Jersey Shore star DJ Pauly D. Pauly got to hear some of Brit's new tunes because he and the pop star have the same management team.

"Her album is amazing — like, I can't even believe it," he told Billboard.com about the March release. "I will be playing her tracks in the club, they're so good. I think this is gonna be one of her greatest albums. ... Britney's awesome. We have the same management, and that's how we meet a lot."

Brit's "Hold It Against Me," set to drop Tuesday, is certainly a club banger, and Pauly believes that these days, with so much pop going dance, the singer is right on the cutting edge.

"Everyone's steering towards dance and everything like that, and she's right there," he explained. "That's how I judge good music, is where I'm gonna play it. Like, 'all right, I'll play that in the car or I can play that in the club.' You can definitely play her stuff in the club."

So is it all dance, or is Brit also slowing things down a bit? "She has some tracks you can play in the car too," Pauly said, so we'll take that as a yes.

Pauly's not the only one who's heard some other new Britney tracks. Ryan Seacrest revealed that he's heard another song, "I I I Wanna Go," describing it as a "powerhouse single." As for "Hold It Against Me," Seacrest raved about the song's final cut. "WOW. The demo doesn't even compare!" he teased.

Justin Bieber Says He's 'Crazy' And 'Nuts'

Bieber opens up about his personal life and the trials of pop superstardom in a new Vanity Fair cover story.

When Vanity Fair got hold of Justin Bieber for their February cover story, the boy wonder admitted that there's a lot going on in that well-coifed head of his. "I'm crazy, I'm nuts," the teen pop sensation declares, while suggesting that might not be such a bad thing for someone in his line of work.

"Just the way my brain works. I'm not normal. I think differently — my mind is always racing," he says in the issue, which hits newsstands everywhere January 11. "I'm just ... nuts. But I think the best [musicians] probably are."

Bieber, whose "Never Say Never" movie hits theaters on February 11, also talks about his hectic life in the spotlight. "It's hard to really balance myself. A regular kid, if he catches the flu, he just gets to go home," the young singer explains. "But I can't do that ... Everything is important. But, you know, my sanity is important, too. Even if I'm angry, I'll just put a smile on my face and fake it. I don't often fake it — what's me is me ... I know I have to give up a lot of myself, or a lot of a private life."

Still, Bieber reveals that he does have someone who helps to ensure that he gets to have some normal experiences. That guy is Kenny Hamilton, his bodyguard, who says, "I feel like I've become an expert at covert operations," adding that he is the guy who makes sure that things go smoothly when the singer gets a day off.

Aside from trying to find time for a personal life, Bieber also confesses that he wants to travel to space (something fellow pop star Lance Bass also dreamt about), hates reading — although he does own a copy of the Will Smith-approved "Rich Dad Poor Dad" — and has a hard time sleeping at night, but that could be attributed to his self-proclaimed racing mind.

"I just turn over all night and think. My mind races," he explains. "I think about all the things I didn't have time to think about during the day — like family and God and things that should be more important but you don't have time to think about, because you just get caught up [in everything else] during the day."

The Vanity Fair piece also includes a conversation with Bieber's mom, Pattie Mallette, who shared that she thinks God put her and her son on Earth to bring light to the world. In addition, the magazine spoke with Usher, who describes the mop-topped singer as "the antithesis of Disney and Nickelodeon," while adding, "You could immediately tell that this [was] a kid who has style — he's a hip kid."

Bieber, now 16, is experiencing all his growing pains in the public eye and he knows that everyone is watching. "For younger guys, it's like [they think] they're not cool if they come to my concert. That'll [change], I think; it'll happen, maybe when I'm 18. But meanwhile, all their girlfriends are coming to watch me," he says. "Of course, I think that people are just waiting for that time when I make a mistake and they're gonna jump on it ... There's gonna be haters."

He adds that he intends to remain level-headed as his career progresses. "I know I'm not going to make a life-changing bad decision, as some people have," he insists. "I've seen it happen too many times. I could be my own worst enemy, but I don't want to mess this up."

Stone Temple Pilots Reunited In Hopes Of Opening For Led Zeppelin, Bassist Says

'If time allows, there will definitely be new music,' Robert DeLeo adds of STP's future.
By Chris Harris

There are a number of reasons why Stone Temple Pilots decided to reunite after nearly five years apart — some are obvious, and others, not so much.

Of course, the financial windfall of reviving the grunge stalwarts for an extensive U.S. tour was too good to pass up, and bassist Robert DeLeo readily admits as much. And then there are the fans, the ones who had been with STP since the very beginning as well as those who discovered the band only after it first split back in 2003 and who, woefully, have yet to catch the Pilots live.

On a more personal level, though, Stone Temple Pilots' resurrection was purely selfish, and very much an anticipatory (not to mention optimistic) move on the band's part: If, after the months and months of rumors and denials, there ever is a full-on Led Zeppelin reunion tour, STP wanted to be ready to offer their services as an opening act.

"Believe me, that was one of the reasons," laughed DeLeo. "We thought, 'We should get together now, in case Zeppelin does tour.' I'm serious, man. That would be one hell of a bill: STP and Led Zeppelin. I mean, we could play a doghouse, out in the middle of the ocean, and if I got to play with Zeppelin, that would be a highlight of my life."

Yes, DeLeo — and the rest of the band — had several reservations about raising STP from the dead — a feat DeLeo jokingly referred to as "Mission Impossible." For the band's members, the idea of regrouping was terrifying at first, but with time, the boys settled their differences and tried to think positive.

"For me, it was about putting down some of the things that I was used to getting bitten by," explained the bassist — who, with guitar-playing brother Dean DeLeo, has been collaborating with Peter Frampton on material for his next LP. "After you get bitten, it's hard to go back. I wanted to go into this with an open frame of mind and a positive attitude and just have fun with it. We should have fun with it, which God knows we didn't always have with our career when we were younger. If that's all I can say, and that's what I can get out of this reunion, great.

"I think I speak for all of us when I say there's a lot of unfinished business that we didn't get around to the first go," he continued. "Enough time has gone by, and it feels really good to be back. I don't really want to put too much thought into how it feels — I'm just kind of going with it and keeping a good positive attitude about it. I just needed to get over the things that we all needed to get over, and that's been working so far. If everyone shows up and does this thing, I think it's going to be really amazing."

DeLeo claims that during recent rehearsals, STP were "sounding as good as ever," and he credits sobriety as part of the reason the band's in tip-top shape.

"My brother's going on four years of sobriety," he said. "We have a lot more clarity in the band now, and I think with clarity comes appreciation. I saw that the other night, when we played [a secret gig in Los Angeles]. I saw it in my eyes, and in the eyes of the rest of the band. There's a lot more rock in this band now."

As for an STP record, DeLeo is not 100 percent sure that's going to happen. The goal for STP over the next few weeks, he said, is to reacquaint themselves with their songbook and prepare for their return to the road. Once the band is back in that mindset, the bassist said new STP material is very possible.

"I've always got stuff written, and there's always a long list of songs that are always there — it's a matter of timing," DeLeo said. "If time allows, there will definitely be new music. I think it would be silly not to release new music. I'd like to believe we still have a writing relationship, but the first step is getting reacquainted with what we know."

While STP were on hiatus, frontman Scott Weiland teamed up with Velvet Revolver, and the DeLeo brothers joined forces with Filter's Richard Patrick for Army of Anyone — who are now on hiatus after releasing a poorly received self-titled LP. Does DeLeo foresee an AOA reunion somewhere down the line?

"You never know," he said. "It's just like STP — I didn't know if I was going to return. Whether we get back together and do anything, I think we made a great record, bottom line. That's all that matters to me. If we make another one, I want to make sure it's great, and that applies to STP and anything I do. But I was pretty heartbroken over [the feeble response to AOA's album]."

We've already given you our selections of the top 30 movies to look forward to in 2011, but a film is only as good as the sum of its parts ? and thankfully, there are a lot of great parts coming our way this year.

Free Jeans!

So I'm FINALLY getting around to giving away all those Gap 1969 jeans left over from my Gap party a year ago. I know, I know... no excuses as to why it has taken me so long to do this; I've just been busy, I guess. So, here's what I have:

I have nine pairs of Gap 1969 jeans, six certificates for a free pair of Gap 1969 jeans (redeemable in stores only), and one $50 gift card (redeemable online or in stores.)

All of the jeans are brand new, although they may have been tried on by someone at my party. In my opinion, they run a size too big, so if you're unsure how the new Gap jeans fit you, I'd go down a size. Please note, if you win a size that doesn't fit, I don't think you'll be unable to exchange them at a Gap store because they say "sample" on the inside tag.

A note on the jeans... I LOVE THEM. And I'm not just saying that. My favorite style is the Long & Lean, which are a wider leg/trouser-type jean. I don't have any L&Ls to give away, but you can find them in the stores. In the past year I've gone through about five pairs of them because I wear them every. single. day. No joke.

Okay, here are the style/sizes I have to give away:

Sexy Boot

Low Rise, Slim in the Hip and Thigh, Boot Cut Leg Opening

Medium Wash, Sizes:

  • 26/2L (I have 2 pairs of these)
  • 28/6L
  • 29/8L
  • 31/12L

Real Straight

Low Rise, Slim in the Hip and Thigh, Straight Leg Opening

Dark Wash, Size:

  • 27/4

Always Skinny

Low Rise, Skinny in the Hip and Thigh, Slim Leg Opening

Saturated Dark Wash, Sizes:

  • 27/4
  • 30/10
  • 31/12

And now, here is how you win. First, take note of the letter that corresponds to the item(s) you want to win.

  • A  -  $50 Gap Gift Card
  • B  -  Gift Certificate for One Pair of Gap 1969 Jeans (I have six)
  • C  -  Sexy Boot 26/2L (I have two pairs)
  • D  -  Sexy Boot 28/6L
  • E  -  Sexy Boot 29/8L
  • F  -  Sexy Boot 31/12L
  • G  -  Real Straight 27/4
  • H  -  Always Skinny 27/4
  • I  -  Always Skinny 30/10
  • J  -  Always Skinny 31/12

Next, leave a comment with your first name and last initial and the letter(s) of the item(s) you want to win.

Example:

Susie Q.

A, B, G

Important: Make sure you enter your email address in the email address box when leaving your comment; I will be the only one who will see it and it's how I'll get in touch with you if you win; it will not appear in the comment section.

And finally, please do not write something like "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J" or "I want to enter to win everything!" next to your name. I know you don't wear a size 2 and a size 12, so let someone who actually wears the size win. It's not nice to be a contest piggy!

Okay, so I will close comments and pick winners randomly this Thursday 12/9 in the morning.

Good luck! I hope you win!

Happy Holidays!

Beyonce Jokes She's Been Pregnant With Concert Special

'I was pregnant with this DVD,' she laughs to MTV News as 'I Am ... World Tour' is set to air Thanksgiving Day on ABC.

Beyoncé never really seems to slow down, so when the time came to choose a director for her concert special DVD "I Am ... World Tour," the singer decided to take on those duties too. It's an accomplishment the singer jokes may have sparked those pregnancy rumors.

"I was pregnant with this DVD, yes!" she joked to MTV News.

The DVD hits stores on November 30, but fans can catch the 90-minute "I Am ... World Tour" TV special when it airs on ABC Thanksgiving night at 9:30 p.m. ET. Beyoncé opened up about what it was like to sit in the director's chair.

"Well, I've done some co-directing for music videos [but] this was definitely a big step for me, and I'm so thrilled," she said at the New York City screening for the flick.

Beyoncé said she was completely hands-on, deciding which moments made the final cut and which ones wound up on the cutting-room floor. "It was hard work," she said. "I learned so much. I have a new respect for directors and I think I would like to do more of it."

Her parents, Mathew and Tina Knowles, who also attended the screening over the weekend, said the film gives B the recognition she deserves after years of collaborating on many of her own videos.

"I'm really excited about this because Beyoncé has been making little short films and really helping to direct her videos," Tina told us. "So it's nice that she'll get credit for doing something that she really loves doing and that she's very talented at."

Dad Mathew recalled all of the effort his superstar daughter put into the special. "I'm so proud," he said. "I had an opportunity [to see the film], I've been to Houston with a screening; I've been to Bentonville, [Arkansas], with a screening, and to see the excitement from the audience, what an incredible job Beyoncé did as a director in the editing, I'm just so proud. Hopefully, all the fans go out and get the DVD and soundtrack and look at that ABC special coming on Thanksgiving."

Are you excited to see Beyoncé's concert special? Tell us in the comments!
